Street Surprise

Martin Turnbull has been a life-long musician. Baptised in the Spirit in 1992, and by immersion in 2001, he is fully trained musician and has been teaching music for nearly 40 years. He has a lot of experience and since1992 he has been performing and directing, in churches, old people’s homes, community centres, pubs, and on the streets.

Much of this has been Christian music, and since 2010 he has been supporting evangelism teams in Bath and Bristol, including the organisation Open Air Campaigners. Since 2015 he has been developing his God-given vocation of singing and dancing and drama, on the streets. The songs and sketches have Christian, spiritual and green themes. Their aim is always to lead people in a God-ward direction whatever the theme. We give thanks to the Lord for organising things so that Junior Nwaubani was able to see him playing Piano and singing in Bristol in 2020, this has led to him supporting Kingdom Impact Vision International in their outreach work in cities across the UK.

Street Surprise lives up to its name: each piece is very different from the last. You never know what is coming next. Some are really upbeat and lively like “This Little Light of Mine”, some are loud and whacky like “Soul Vacuum”, and some are quiet and meditative like the hand-mime ones such as “Imbolc Shammah” and “Human Nature”. Be prepared to meet characters like street-wise John, Mabel from Wiltshire, antiquated Professor Pompou, or a travelling entertainer from the Southern States! You can see some of his videos on the Street Surprise YouTube channel. Search by channel, or put in “Street Surprise Soul Vacuum” in the search bar, or scan or simply click on this QR code:
