The Great Commission

What is the greatest ambition of your church, to knock down the walls and make it larger, to construct a second floor so as to seat more people, start a food bank to feed hundreds of people, grow your youth group and bring in invited kids from your community, equip your staff so that they can be more effective in ministry?

These are all worthy aspirations and things to pray about. But nothing comes close to the aspiration of your church or fellowship reaching out to the lost. In fact, if you have the finances to achieve all of the above, these projects should be secondary to or at least help you to achieve the greatest commission that we have been given as Christians – going out to reach the lost. This is one of the foremost reason that we have been saved.

The fifth chapter in the book of Mark talks about a man that Jesus had set free from the possession of Satan, this man had a great testimony, he had been set free in a mighty way and he wanted to follow Jesus. Now there was nothing wrong with him wanting to follow Jesus, he could have been a good asset to have on the team of disciples, but Jesus knew that he would have a greater testimony among the people that knew him in that area. He had a testimony that was impossible to refute.

18 And when He got into the boat, he who had been demon-possessed begged Him that he might be with Him. 19 However, Jesus did not permit him, but said to him, “Go home to your friends, and tell them what great things the Lord has done for you, and how He has had compassion on you.” 20 And he departed and began to proclaim in Decapolis all that Jesus had done for him, and all marvelled.

(Mark 5:18-20)

Jesus saves us where we are and where we are at, but He does not stop there or expect us to stop there, He further commissions us to go out there and preach the gospel of salvation. Your salvation testimony should be your salvation message of the power of God to save. We have been saved to save others. If we really appreciated how Jesus took us out of a life of darkness and despair, we would rush to ensure that others get to know the saving grace of the Lord.

I read a testimony of a couple, who mentioned that it is sometimes difficult to preach in isolation. Some people have a gift and grace to go it alone on the streets and preach to people with the boldness and anointing of God upon their lives, but for some others, they work better with a team to fall back on. KIVI is that team, a group of people from multiple denominations, who trust in the anointing power of God to reach out to the lost.

KIVI know that the great commission is a commandment, and it is their desire is to see all of God’s children reaching out to the lost with the compassion of the Lord Jesus and in the power and anointing of the Holy Spirit.

36 But when He saw the multitudes, He was moved with compassion for them, because they were weary and scattered, like sheep having no shepherd. 37 Then He said to His disciples, “The harvest truly is plentiful, but the laborers are few. 38 Therefore pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest.”

(Matthew 9:36-38)

Also, remember, its not about taking on the job of solely trying to reach the whole world overnight, its about first being faithful in your own little corner of the world. That is what Jesus wanted the saved man to do, reach out to the lost in his home town. KIVI will equip you to do just that.

God bless you.
